NEWS RELEASE – Sturgeon County Launches New Incentive Program to Boost Small Business Growth

Sturgeon County, AB — Sturgeon County is proud to announce the launch of the Small Business Incentive (SBI) program, which invests $75,000 per year in local small businesses by providing up to $5,000 in matching funds for owners to invest in education, equipment and technology upgrades, and marketing initiatives. 

“This program is about investing in our small business community and ensuring they have the tools they need to grow, stay competitive, and contribute to a strong local economy,” says Mark Morrisey, Director of Economic Innovation and Growth at Sturgeon County. “By supporting efforts in education, technology, and marketing, we’re helping business owners build capacity in the areas that matter most.” 

The SBI accepts applications on a continuous intake basis, with two review periods in September and November. Funds are distributed on a first come, first served basis until the program application closes in November. 2025 program dates are: 

  • August 11 – Small Business Incentive program applications open 
  • September 3 – First application review period 
  • November 5 – Final application deadline 
  • November 13 – Final application review period
  • December 1 – Final reporting and proof of payment from recipient is due
